Abstract
This study investigates the antiviral effects of remdesivir and chloroquine against the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in vitro. The results indicate that both drugs exhibit significant antiviral activity in cell experiments. Remdesivir is a nucleotide analogue that inhibits viral RNA polymerase. Chloroquine is a traditional antimalarial drug that raises the pH of endosomes and lysosomes, thereby interfering with viral replication.
Research Methods
Virus culture: The virus was cultured using the Vero E6 cell line.
Drug treatment: Remdesivir and chloroquine were added to the cell culture system.
Antiviral assay: The inhibitory effect of the drugs was evaluated by detecting viral RNA levels using qRT-PCR.
Research Results
Remdesivir: At low concentrations (EC50 = 0.77 μM), it effectively inhibits the replication of 2019-nCoV.
Chloroquine: At lower concentrations (EC50 = 1.13 μM), it also shows significant antiviral activity.
Conclusion
Remdesivir and chloroquine can effectively inhibit the replication of 2019-nCoV in vitro, suggesting that these two drugs have potential for the treatment of COVID-19. Further clinical trials are needed to verify their efficacy and safety.
